I have a 110 and one pair of my JD have mated and produced about 40 swimming fry. I have never dealt with babies before. I took them out and put them in a 10 gallon with a UGF and put the parents in too. Is this a good idea? There are jaguar cichlids in the 110 so i didn't want any conflict. should i put the parents back in the 110? Or leave them them to care for the fry? Is it okay to suck up the fry with a python to transfer them? What is the best way to capture fry?

take the parents out, they soon will become less interested in caring for the fry and more interested in spawning again, and they will start eating the fry in order to build up the protein needed to produce more eggs.

i have read alot about using a turkey baster to get the fry, with mine i used a net and they always came out fine.

the reason i had to take the fry out was that there were other predators in the tank. i didn't even think the JD were sexually mature enough to spawn. one is about 3.5 inches and the other is barely 2 inches.

Leave the fry in the smaller tank and get the parents out of that little tank and back into the 110.....Feed the fry 3 to 5 times a day and do small water changes a couple times a week.....breeding cichlids is such a blast
