Does anyone on MFK have photos of their Jack Dempsey MALE from when they were really small to what they grew into today? Just trying to find some photos so I can really narrow the Dempseys down at my LFS to try and get a male.

how big is he in the first pic?

and i dunno how you guys do it, i just wanna be able to pick a male out of the tank at my LFS but im afraid once i get them home they will be female :/

The best way is just look for the biggest one in there with spangles all over body and only few spangles around the eye and some on gill plates. Females have few spangles on body and a lotta color on gill plates

Yah i know, just at that young of an age i feel like if its a female their gill plates wont be that bright and ill take it home thinking its a male when its not.. Oh well my LFS has some for around a dollar guess ill just pick up a few and rehome them later.

in the first one id say hes about 2 maybe 2 and a half inches long.now hes about 5 1/2 - 6 1/2. hes still bout and inch or so smaller than my female though. full spangles down the body and less spangles on the gill plate hint a male. Lots of spangles on the gillplate and partial spangles on the body are female.
