Jack Dempsey growth rate? How to grow faster?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The best way to get any cichlid to grow fast, is by doing lots of water changes.
Many discus breeders will change 90% of a tanks water every day to get fast growth.
And that works, one 50% water change per week, exponentially slower, 1 per month, even slower yet.

Beef heart has a lot of fat in it. I would be careful feeding that as a staple. Fish don't eat that in the wild anywhere I only feed it to mine as an occasional treat. The diet you're describing is 100% carnivorous. JD's are omnivores and I've found that they tend to lose a lot of blue sparkliness when deprived of their "green" foods.

I mix it up for mine. Pellets, flakes, blood worms, baby shrimp, krill, and algae wafers. Bugs on occasion as well.
Shes been a pretty steady grower.

Like has been stated, water changes and varied diet are your best bets. It's still a Dempsey though, your not going to see 1" per month growth rates like you might with an Oscar or amphilophus. Patience is key

A quality pellet, water changes and tank size make a difference in growth.

Beefheart is really bad for cichlids.
