They are not fast growers. That said, any good quality flake or pellet will do the job. Feed twice a day (three times if smaller portions) and change 30-50% of the water at least weekly. Crowding and bullying will slow growth.

Ya I agree. Mine grew about 6" in the first year and then slowed down a lot after that.

My 8" male ive had for about 1 year give or give a month or two lol i raised from 1". ye always been pretty dominant raised with my oscar and gt and midevils. at first he ate growth formula with 50 %
protein As a staple and supplemented that diet with lots of frozen krill, silversides, blooworms, ect. i also do 80% wc twice sometimes 3 times a week in my 125g where he was raised his whole life. as he got older i gave less protein based pellets maybe down to 30-35% .if u see a pattern in ur replies its good food, varied diet space space space and water changes. ;)

Mines about 6" and I've had her for about 5 months, I got her when she was around 2". I feed mine TetraCichlid Cichlid Flakes and cichlid pellets but she likes the flakes best. You could also feed yours brine shrimp or other frozen foods.

When I had my JD, it liked frozen bloodworms, and brine shrimp. It also ate one of my smaller loaches (loach was under 2"), $4.99 for a JD's supper! I didn't appreciate his appetite.:irked:
