Added a 8 inch male JD to my 125 which had a 8 inch hoplias malabracius a few weeks ago. The JD is skittish when I come around but when it thinks I'm gone it will flare at the wolf and try to bite him. Actually the wolf has skin that was bitten off very tiny marks.

I didn't expect this to happen and thought the opposite would occur.

Should I rehome the JD or give it more time? Or any other recommendations?

It won’t end unfortunately. Need to move one of the fish.

Could try adding a few more cichlids, smaller tough ones, to distract the jd from the wolf. A few male convicts would probably be my choice, I'd add 3 of them.

If that doesn't work, I would probably re-home.
Actually tried this with 2 convicts. Although the convicts were a bit beat up. Over a period of a week the 4 inch one was eaten by the wolf. The much larger convict was killed by the wolf.

This is why I expected the wolf to bite the JD but I think the JD just too much force and mass.

I was thinking a bichir may help but not sure the JD would care about it.

Ime when keeping with big aggressive cichlids, JDM style tank is the best. Otherwise it never works. Someone gets bullied.

Bichirs always worked with wolves ime. Never had trouble with that combo
