These two jack dempseys have been together for around a year now. The are always together. Never leaving each other but they have not had any fry?? They are about 6" long. I'm starting to wonder if I have 2 fish of the same sex. Here are their photos. The one I believe to be a female has fin damage. I bought her like that 2 years ago. Tried everything to get the fins to repair but no luck. I read somewhere that once a dempseys fins get damaged, they don't grow back??? Anyways here are my dempsies. The one i believe is a male is much more colorful and fins are long flowing. Thanks in advance.

Two males

I agree, females have more of a smeared spangle pattern on the chin where as the male's look like poka dots all over. You have 2 male's. They wouldn't necessarily fight if there is no female to fight for and one is being sub dominant.

two males. As long as one of them is clearly dominant and the other one doesn't challenge it then they won't fight.
