Jack Dempsey, Males or Females?

Currently I have two Jacks in my tank, Micky and Mallory... the problem that I am facing is I am not sure at all if they are males or females. Have read article after article on how to tell them apart and I just am more confused. I THINK they might be two females due to the fact that there is more colouring around the face.

I'll post up some photos later on... but a short description:

Micky: Slightly bigger, "hardy" body, he does go darker and lighter at times from a dark blue to pale grey with defined stripes. I would say he's roughly 3 inches in size.

Mallory: Smaller with a pale grey body. Markings around the face. Seems to be the more aggressive one of the two.

Both have the red lining on the fins... both seem to be killing everyone else.

If anyone can shed some light that would be fab + will post up some photos later though they are a bit camera shy still...

I have a jd as well and can't sex it. I bought 4 jd's 2 months ago at a small size. I kept the one that was dominant/biggest/best looking (has lots of blue spangling throughout the body, hardly any under jaw) so I am hoping mine is a male. Post your pics I want to compare to mine.

now, the photos i have to say are pretty crap so i do apologize.

the darker one has tendencies to change color from really dark to very pale.

so, if anyone can shed any light on this then that would be great...

From what I have read. I also say 2 females. Especially the one on bottom. So much blue on the jaw area. My jd that I hope is a male, has like no blue there, it's blue throughout it's body.

Mmm... that is what I suspected as well.

Would it be alright to add a male to the picture now or will that cause the ladies to fight ;-)

I don't know about that but I am jealous. That bottom jd is really beautiful. I was trying to get a pair for 55gal. Bought 4 jd and none had any blue under the jaw like that . Gimme Gimme Gimme Gimme
