There a fish at the LFS and the staff said it was a Dempsey, but it looks like a an Umbriferum, sorrry forgot to get pics, Is there a way to determine the species ? any distinguishing marks ?

Umbees will have a much more pointed snout and a spot in the middle of the body and on the Upper half of the tail. They really look nothing alike so distinguishing the two is quite simple.

rude!, the community here is off putting, dunno if i'll bother anymore.

Google is your friend

Don't understand how this comment was rude but anyway, yea if you google images of both fish there shouldn't be a whole lot of confusion. They do look very different.

I apologize in advance if these are anybody's fish

Body shape is the biggest give away. Hope this helps.
