I have an empty 125 gallon and can't decide what to do with it. I know someone who has a breeding pair of jack dempsey's (male 5", female 4") and wouldn't mind me having them. But before I do that, I'd like to know what else I'd be able to put in the tank with them. I'd LOVE your input.

A 125 is plenty big enough to give the jack dempsey's room to spawn and have other cichlids as well. The possibilities are virtually endless. You might want to list a few fish that you like and are considering and get some feedback on them.

I agree!! Excellent on room... It would also be awesome if you only kept the pair in it!! Fish are completely different in Specie tanks!!

It sounds like your good to take them ... you need to stop by and see them. You will love the colors on the male. I need to post a pic on here so others can see him. They are a little shy, but I think thats there nature, and that probably works in your favor as far as aggression towards other fish. They don't pay any attention to either the Black Nasty or Convict that they are living with.

Got some pics of the Dempseys, they look much better in person

Thanks for the pics! I'm going to go with that pair... they're going to be sooo happy in the 125.

Then I get to pick and choose at the 25% off sale at Big Al's this weekend! Woo-hoo! Lucky me. A free pair of JD's and so many possibilities.

I'm thinking juvenile convicts. I want something that won't pose TOO much of a threat to the JD pair.

i go with some thing like 3 FM's 2 BP's 2 salvini 2 convicts

I like this idea ... except I don't know what the BP's are

I'll second the species tank - I agree, behaviors are totally different & so much more natural (for most species) IMO.
