I have 5 Jacks Dempsey's and 2 of them are colored out while the other 3 are still a pale color. Does it mean that the 2 colored out are paired? all 5 are only about 1"-2" long. They have also been chasing the other 3.

The pale coloring could be indicating that those two are a little stressed.

Why are there two colored out tho. Wouldn't it only be one thats colored, if it was stressing them out? ha I'm just trying to figure it out. they have plenty of places to hide and swim.
Its most likely stress coloration. When I move my 9" male from tank to tank, he does the same. Been doing this for about 5 years.
I have about 50-60 small 1.5"-2.0"+ Jack Dempsey from a spawning a few months ago. Some are more pale & some are darker. Just the way it goes.
The adults. Sometimes they are more pale...and sometimes dark. I think that it depends on their mood/emotions.
With the fish only being 1"-2" at the moment (which is about the size of the 50-60 I have)...I think that it's a bit early to be looking for pairing up.
