So i got this jack Dempsey about 2 months ago. When i got him he had this small rip in his tail. I figured it would grow back so i left it alone. Unfortunately it hasn't and in fact looks bigger. It doesn't appear to be affecting him when he swims. I am worried that his tail may not grow back correct and could cause future problems. Should i take him out of the tank and trim it off? And how would i go about doing this? Here are some pics. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I don't think that little bit would affect him whatsoever. If it really bothers you, I believe you could trim off just the very back portion evenly and let it grow back normally.

I'd leave it alone if he were one of my fish, personally.

It might just be a phsyical defect. I would do nothing and leave it alone.
