So I remeasured my Jack Dempsey last night and he's actually around 5" head to tail. At what size do they normally hit "sexual maturity" and get mean? Currently he is the biggest fish in the tank but still the wuss of the tank. He will always quickly move to the other side of the tank when the EBJD comes around flaring his gills and the Bleekeri... Well that's a whole nother puzzle. He sits there at the edge or in the Bleekeri's territory and the Bleekeri will either A) back up and then charge him. (The JD just sits there, no response to the charge) or B) "peck" at him and he slightly pulls away. (Best description is a girl trying to give you a kiss on the cheek and you pull away and are like "get off of me")

Honestly I'm not worried about the JD health, more worried about him finally snapping back since he is the biggest in the tank.

introduce a female JD and you will more than likes see a big attitude change if that's what you are looking for. male JD make good community tank mates for the most part unless a female is introduced to the tank, I ran my large bull JD for a year or to with oscars, cats, other fish no probs. droped a female in and poop hit the fan, had to get them there own tank.

No, a breeding pair of JD in my 55 with my other stuff in there doesn't sound like what I want =P good to know he should stay laid back though.

My (limited) experience with Jack Dempseys they tend to be shy, and not (overly) aggressive, but majority (of mine) wouldn't back down from a fight.
It depends on the individual fish though. You could have a wuss that will stay a wuss forever. You never really know.

See that's how my EBJD is, unless he gets caught by suprise. I'd almost call my JD docile.
