SO ive got a jack dempsey in a 60 gallon by himself with dual filtration and he gets fed right now twice a day he is about 5 or 6 inches right now and im wondering how to get his size to increase because it seems he has been holding at this size for a few months now and i know he could reach 8-10"

More and larger water changes can spark growth. Vary the diet as well. Mix in frozen or live foods. Beefheart, bloodworms, krill. Try veggies too. If not, Omega one veggie flakes are a good option

Not every JD reaches 8-10 inches just like very person does not reach 5ft 10inch which is the normal size of men. If you have a healthy fish why are you so worried about his size and growth rate. Time will tell you whether or not he has stopped growing.

i bout a male about 5 or 6 inches long and mine took about 3 or 4 months to grow to about 7 inches. but since then he looks like a bad ass now. his mouth is huge.

There is no need to worry about rapid growth. I have seen so many people braging that there fish were growing so fast, feeding them tons of different foods; in the end, all those fish did not get to one year. In my opinion, fish keeping is a question of constancy and patience on the long run.

The fish needs excellent water quality (filtration, water change, suitable tank size) and excellent quality food without overfeeding (one good pellet brand is more than enough). That way, it will reach it's potential.

Yes JD are not known to be fast growers, but they are beautiful fish, so be patient and enjoy him as you already have a really nice fish, even if he only grows another 2-3 inches in a year.

Jd's in my exsperience grow pretty good untill around the 5-6 inch mark and drop to a slow growth rate after that. People that you c with 10 inch plus jd's it took along time to get them to that size. I am with every one else in saying do not over feed to beef up your fish. All that will do is kill him in the end destroying his insides. I fed my 8 inch female jd hikari cichlid gold, omega one cichlid, and omega one shrimp pellets with great results. hikari in the morning, omega one after work, and a few shrimp pellets every night for a snack before bed, and 2 times a week i would feed either earth warms, super worms, frozen krill, or frozen blood warms, allso vegie pellets a couple times a week probaully not needed but just what i did for her. I do not feed any of my fish on sunday. One day a week down time sunday is the day i picked. There are so many good pellets on the market these are the one that work for me and that are in my budget. If you have a higher budget the new cichlid bio gold is top shelf, and so is the ching mix mad for flower horns but still perfect for large cichlids. I have used the ching mix it is a great product for beefing up and vibrant colors but at 2-3 times the price of cichlid gold is out of my price range. If you have the money im sure that the ching mix and hikari bio gold are the two best product you can use for best results with out over feeding. There are tons of these threads on here about feeding jd's and every other large cichlid type it in the search bar and u will get tons of results. I see that you have been a member sence 09 so you are well aware of how to operate this site lol. Hope this helped a little. If you have any quistions for me about what i did to beef up and max out my female j.d feel free to send me a pm
