i think he looks fine, he is probably still getting used to his new environment. i would reccomend turning the lights off, and keeping activity around the tank at a minimum for atleast a couple of days, this seems to help my new fish acclimate.

Mine is super moody. Changes colors so much my wife often asks if I bought a new fish...Mine goes pretty pale after any disturbance of the tank as well...

Could take a little longer to settle in. Tankmates?

tank size would also be helpful info.

its a 150 gallon with another jack like 4 inches , 4 inch dovii , small 4 inch jaguar , small 5 inch red tiger motaguense , red tail tiger catfish and a motoro stingray but the ray and cat will be out soon the ray is about 5 inches without tail .....

Probably just stressed a bit being the new fish. I wouldn't worry too much. Good food, clean water and low stress will help it settle in

the jack has not ate any pellets but it ate blood worms i threw in but i dont wanna get him hooked on them ..... his previous owner said that he ate pellets so ill see what happens

One thing I've noticed with Dempsey's is if they're a sub dominant fish in a tank they are lighter in color. My male and female that breed are always dark or black, while the female that paired off with my EBJD is always pale gray. Now when I put the divider into the tank and separate them from the regular pair... I'm sure that will change, as it did in the past.

Yours looks pretty big and sometimes with the larger cichlids it can take them longer to adjust to new tanks. It's not uncommon for larger fish to take up to a month to fully adjust.
