Ok, so I just got a 125 gallon already stocked tank. It came with a fluval fx5 the guy I got it from came to my house and set the tank up, but didn't tell me what he has already in the fluval, and what I should put it in. Any advice would be great. I have no idea how often to change the media in the filter or what to put in there to begin with!!

If you do a search for "fx5" you'll come up with a TON of info. Most people just use biomax on all 3 trays and the standard sponges on the outer ring. From what I understand any polishing pads cause microbubbles pretty fast and become a pain. Mine runs with biomax and standard sponges and it does great!

ditto, I just use the regular sponges and ceramic rings in the middle of the trays. I've used polishing pads and polyester fiber but I get micro bubbles after a week or 2 of use. I run an FX5 and an AC110 on my 135 and it works great. I clean my fx5 usually every 4-6 weeks.
