I'm pretty sure they are, but I'm a bit unsure. I ask this, because the bigger one I added a day or so ago and they've been behaving odd.

It was in a holding tank with a massive jewel cichlid, and was beaten up pretty bad. He was in the tank with another smaller JD male. They were both huddled near the top of the tank. I took a risk, as I already have a male JD, but was hoping for the best based on after 15 minutes of observing, he never went after the smaller JD, so I figured I'd give it a shot. Worst case scenario I return it.

I floated it for 20 minutes, and during that time my smaller JD was right there near the bag the entire time. Neither were flaring, they were sort of just brushing near each other. Once I released the larger JD, my smaller followed it to a corner as he was stressed. After another 20 or so of him getting used to the tank, he started roaming, with my smaller JD following it like tetras in a school do. It's been 2 days now, and the smaller JD is still following the larger male. No aggression, other then the JD getting tired of my firemouth flaring up, so he showed him who the new tank boss was. Even after that, there were a few times where I've stuck my hands in the tank and the FM+both JDs all huddle together in a corner until I take my hands out.

Have I lucked out with super docile male JDs, or is 1 a female? Btw, the larger one pictures is 5-6 inches, and the smaller is 3-4 inches.

looking like 2 males to me. one on right tinny bit iffy but thinking because younger.

if you had a female and male together and they hanging out together they would would be harassing the any other fish in the tank, esp a female. before i moved my pair the male would keep my Oscar cornered in the 180, and the female hurrased the other fish including a 9" female jag to no end.

Two males to me. The one one the right is just washed out due to stress from the other male most likely.

Male JD are not that aggressive with out a female, they make good oscar tank mates and with other fish because of this. throw a female. wither a JD or convict and that changes.

+1 Montel, I agree.
