I decided to switch all of my stock over to hybrids. The guy who runs the fish department in my LPS, has had these hybrids for a while. He didn't have them for sale but he said he'd trade my JD, a convict pair and two firemouths for them. I just wanted to get rid of the fish, but he said if I spawned them he would take the fry.

There appears to be a male and a female (???). He said that the two must have spawned cause these three other fish (fry at first) showed up in the aquarium.

The guy who brought them into the store said his JD and Mayan spawned.
The "male" hybrid.

Sorry no female pics, she's basically a blander, smaller version of the male.

Offspring??? I told him I thought they were firemouths. He said there is no way they got in there unless they went through their entire filtration system.

The top is not a Mayan mix. You see the bars by the heads do not become a Y on Mayans, like Festaes. But by no means is Festae mix, Looks more like a Convict mix with possible Jack. And yes from the patterns (not color which is lacking) it looks like a Firemouth below.

I like hybrids and don't mind them but we have to admit that because we're not used to them, its a bit FREAKY lookin sometimes

Looks like Mayan X JD to me. Btw, the pic on the bottom isn't a hybrid, its a T. Meeki, AKA Firemouth.

Well the convict mix would explain the size difference in the male and female. I'm rooting for the Mayan JD still. Well I'm cool with it, I'll just get to tell him I was right lol.
