Other cichlids that would go well with a pair of jack dempseys in a 250 gal tank ?
What about with a single JD

I'd probably do something aside from another Dempsey. Maybe an oscar, pearsi, or something larger than a jd so it could defend itself against the pair

I would put the dempsy in a 75g and get a pair of umbee. just sayen.:)

I already have a dovii in a 200 gal, i would want a tank with more different species of cichlid than just a pair ;)

With plenty of rocks branches and good line of sight breaks a group of 8 meeki could work well.
I think it would be an interesting tank too.The meeki would be able to form breeding colonies in a tank that size and you could have several pairs all with young at the same.
The tank is big enough for the jds to have a spawning site and allow the meeki enough room to respect their boundaries.
You may be able to have a mix of species in there but the more you try the more problematic things can become later down the line.
I think the nicest set ups you see on forums youtube, books wherever have few species and the less is more approach always looks good.
The other reason for keeping meeki is they can be found alongside jds in the wild.It would make a nice authentic Mexican biotope if that appeals to you.
