My female jack (5 to 6 in both) 20180130_141358.jpg 20180130_141245.jpg 20180130_141354.jpg paired with a pink male jack Dempsey..will the fry be hybrids? How long once fry start swimming..should i remove the fry to a small breeder tank? I dont recommend any plecos in tank or behind a divider..This 3 rd 4 th time i seen eggs but figured out the Jacks were not protecting the eggs..plecos ate them..last question? Are jack good parents? When they in pot there fins blow the eggs all over the tank....and outside the pot..Any help much appreciated..

A hybrid is when one species of fish breed with another species.
A pink JD and a normal JD are both the same species.
That said, pink JDs are line bred for the pink color, so in case many fry survive, some will be pink, some normal, a number of them somewhere in between.
JDs are normally good parents, if the eggs are viable they should adhere to the pot. Unless they have already hatched and are wrigglers. In the wriggler stage the fry do not have the ability to swim. The wriggler stage lasts 2 -4 days, then the fry start to swim, and thats when they nee to be fed with proper fry foods.

When I have a spawn, I figure 3 days in egg stage. 3 days in wiggler stage, then they'll be free swimming. Jacks are very good parents. Best results in rearing occur if you can start feeding baby brine shrimp soon as they are free swimming.

When I'm trying to maximize the number of surviving fry, I remove them at wiggler stage.

What else do you have in the tank? If the parents feel threatened, they might be eating the eggs.

And I agree about the plecos. I've seen plecos snarfing on eggs in the middle of the night, when the parents are asleep.

Thank u for u time..? I have servum 4 in blood parrot 4 in knose pleco..hybrid convict..also in tank but divide by egg crate..the dempesy have 65 percent of tank..i notice the jack sit by eat crates wstching other fish..the wiggle stage what u speak of tiny yellow egg moring around tank..correct..please help me get this right

They will not look like tiny little eggs moving around the tank at wiggler stage. When they are at wiggler stage, they will just look like a cluster of tiny fry in a bunch on the ground, guarded by parents. By the time they are free swimming, their yolk sacs will be almost gone.

something isn't right. The eggs would be stuck to a surface. Are you sure they are eggs?

Good question..maybe not..in the pot i only see 15 eggs or so..i did not know they stick to pot..maybe that is male cum..or excess food..but in picture..light brown clumped together..so i figured eggs..
