Put a flat rock in your tank on an angle...make sure your water is 80 degrees ,your PH around 8.0...this is my current set up for my pair..they breed about once every three-four weeks or so...FYI..the male will get pretty aggressive with her..you may want to think about a divider or another tank for him once spawning starts....

hey wat he said with the flat rock i am trying 2 breed jewel cichlid and i bought a flat rock and turn the heat up and give them some time

I started with 5 Jacks and just let them pair up. But once the one pair formed a match they killed the other 3 so keep an eye on your tank. Good luck.

I use a 6" or 8" flowerpot, I do weekly water changes 30% and feed pellets and cut up shrimp. You might need a few dither fish if the female isn't ready and the male is picking on her. I usually use 2 or 3 females and one male.

My experience...

My jacks breed in 76-77F in a PH of 6.2 in a flowerpot, and then the female beat the snot out of the male. I had done a 25% water change the day before.

Diet was massivore, beef heart, shrimp pellets and krill.
