Do they do well together? I have a 75 gal. with nothing yet. I was either going to go for a small dempsey (mated) pair and 5 or so pictus or find a monster of a male and then 5 or so pictus. I'm not sure why the mated pair is so small.... the owner of the LFS says they're full grown, but maybe he's wrong?

Anyway, what do you think? Does anybody have experience with Jacks and pictus?

This is my first real big tank and my first experience with large cichlids.

I have 2 Pictus cats in with a JD and 2 Oscars and the Cichlids tend to ignore the catfish, the largest Oscar will take the odd lunge at one but no serious aggression.

should be good tankmates, assuming by pictus you mean the typical spotted pictus or p. blochii

really depends on your jack. ive only had one that has bothered a pictus cat but usually the catfish started it!! i think maybe you should shorten your amount of the pictus cats to 3. jack dempseys need 50 gallons a piece by themselves although you can get away with a mated pair in a 50, that doesnt leave much room for the cats which get 6" themselves.
i do believe you are picking some great fish!
