Hello guys,

I am new to this website. I heard this website is very helpful to know more about fish.
can you guys please help me with this?

I got a Jack Demsey (5") and I just bought a arowana (13")and put it in the same tank as Jack Demsey in. It looks like JD is bullying an arowana around too much. Is that ok to keep them in the same tank? or is it just happening at beginning for short period of time or it will keep going like that?

Thanks

Welcome to Monster Fish Keepers.

How many gallons is the tank????

The arowana is too much larger than the Jack Dempsey. I would seperate them.

Oh, WHOOPS! Haha, misread. Thought the aro was bullying the JD. Wow, okay then....Hmmm...I guess the Jack Dempsey considers the whole tank his territory and does not like the newcomer. Perhaps you can try rearranging the JD's "furniture" to mess up his territory.

But to be honest, I think your arowana will outgrow the tank. They eventually need a 250+gallon tank.

The JD should back off when he gets used to the aro. Just be sure to keep a close eye on them. If the fins on the aro get torn too much you might have to separate them. Right now the JD is defending its territory. It should back off when it realizes the aro isn't a threat.

I'll also say that 90 will only be alright short term

Better make sure the lid is very secure. With the JD nipping at the aro like that, there is a good chance the aro will end up on the floor.

oh man without my watch over night, It looks like my JD did some work on my Arowana. It seems like the arowana fins torn off a bit. Will these things grow back normally? and how long would it take?
