I have a male 6 inch JD and he is in a 55 gallon. He used to be with a gold clown knife but beat the clown knife to much so the knife had to go. Can I get the JD a Tank mate exept for the pleco. Will an oscar do? Maybe a flower horn? Or green terror? If not another cichlid could he go with 2 silver dollars or catfish of some sorts?

The problem that you are keep doing is the kind of fish you want to add....

GT, FH, OSCAR, all of these are BIG Cichlid fish.. and need to be in their own tanks as they grow older...

ur JD is already 6" a good size adult.. u should def consider keeping him with other smaller fish.. Cichlid is not a good idea...
The reason why your JD was beating the Knife was cuz he wants to be the boss of the tank.. and you have to let him be one if he is only in a 55gallon...

Or if u want more fish.. get a bigger tank.. or give him away... u'll get problems if u keep him with anything else.. u could try a female JD for him.. a smaller one would work...

In a 55 gallon I would recommend maybe a convict and lots of places for the convict to hide. Just get one though, preferably male. I would recommend an alternative of some sort of dithers as well BUT with dithers a lot grow big and so you would have to take them back to the lfs once in a while. I personally like silver dollars of which you should get in groups of 6 or more.

Your JD actually still has a bit of growing to do as well and so you might consider getting a bigger tank in the future. They are slow growers but they do grow. I have seen them up to a foot.
