i have a jack russel terrier that i got about a week ago. i work 4 days a week 9-7 each day, on the days i work i usually just feed him once in the morning at 8 o'clock and once when i get home around 7:30.

today my friends dad asked my mom if he could have me over for dinner(which never happens and cracked me up when i found out). i still live with my mom so she said she would just take care of the dog when she got home at about 8.
she wound up going home and going straight to sleep, leaving my dog in his kennel until i got home at midnight. needless to say, he was filthy.

my question is; if i come home late should i feed him and allow him to completely soil up his kennel by the time i wake up, or should i just let him wait til morning to be fed?
hes a cutie by the way... one day ill post pics.:)

oh and, is this the right forum? i kinda took a guess.

How old is this puppy? If he is left alone in his crate for long periods of time. Watch out for behavioral disorders,. I would try to look into those pet day care centers if he's not too little....or find him a nice home where people are home during the day... Sounds like you don't have a lot of available time to properly take care of a puppy?

Also when crate training a dog, the crate should be big enough for the dog to comfortably lay down in it. There shouldn't be lots of room for it to move around and relieve it's self. If your dog is going to the bathroom in the crate, it's probably too big. That's one of the biggest problems people run across when crate training.

I would suggest a daycare for your puppy.. this is a very important time is his life, depending on how young he is, and can lead to problems in the future.
House-breaking for one, puppies cannot hold it long, and need alot of work.. if they get in the habit of going where they are, you're going to have a hard time breaking them of it when they're older..

It doesn't sounds like you have much time for proper training... And you got a terrier, that's worse than a normal puppy. Being in a crat for that long is not a good thing.

i forgot to mention my mom is off 2 of the days i work so he is in his crate a grand total of 2 days a week, is that still too much? he is now 9 and a half weeks.

he is in a crate that is 3 x 2 x 2 too big? i figured i'd get one that could house his full grown size.

since its a puppy u should try and feed 3 times a day until a year old then twice a day! id suggest gettin a excercise pen for ur dog instead of leavin it in a crate or kennel! i put my excercise pen in the kitchen! theres more room for ur dog 2 jus hang out in the pen when ur gone and he wont build up all this energy or soil himself like he would in a kennel or crate! it shows hes not trained for a crate or kennel cuz hes crapped himself already! in the pen jus put alot of toys in there, pee pad in one corner, and food and water in another corner! no need to board ur dog which will cost alot over time and shes too young! you want her to be established at ur home and with ur family before u bring her somewhere new becuase it would create separation anxiety! well good luck!
