I was told that my jag was a male. Here lately hes been cleaning off the same piece of slate over and over again. I was wondering if it might actually be a female tryin to find a spot to lay eggs? Any ideas and please explain to my why so i know for future use, thanks. Eyeball TL is about 6-7 inches.

Looks like a very nice female. Even though she looks to have some patterns of a male they remain dull in color with yellowish brown coloring. a male at that size would have a purple sheen much deeper patterns and darker coloring..

I have caught a sheen to him across the top in some angles you look at him/her, so i dont know....Thanks for all the imput. I guess i could net him and try to get a pic of the vent. That would probly be the best way to determine, huh?

Could also be that the light sand is lighting him/her up to. venting would be the way to go for now.

i'm a newbie, but looking at fins, i'd say female..males tend to have slightly pointier dorsals, right?
