Whilst at local fish retailer today I noticed they had a young jag in probably about 5-6" in length..It did look like a male and must admit the patterning was alot more intense than my "probable" female that I posted pics of a while ago.Very speckled and had a lovely purple sheen to it..Maybe I shouldn't have but I brought it and placed it in my tank with the other one.At first mine was curious and there was no aggression but just caught them locking lips but only briefly..The new one doesn't seem that fussed but obviously my original one is flaring its gills and trying to establish dominance..Could this work out once things have settled or will they always fight?..there are plenty of hiding places within the tank for both fish..its a 5x2x2 ft aquarium with nothing else in there apart from my plec.I will get pics of the new one when I can. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Just snapped this pic..sorry its a really bad photo.:irked: He also looks quite flat on his underside..needs feeding up by the looks of him.He was in with 3 huge oscars 2 large plecs and some silver sharks..felt quite sorry for him as he was just hiding away in the corner..I did feel quite sorry for him tbh..so would you agree he looks like a male?

Thanks mate..hoping he is but even more so hoping they get along...I realise that just because they maybe opposite sexes doesn't mean that it will be fine but curious as to know how long I should leave them before maybe taking one out?..As far as i can tell they aren't trying to kill each other but the female is a bit peed off..

It looks male from the pointy fins and patterns. That would be a cool combo though. Your female seems to be a mixed of gold jag/silver jag. and that male is a regular silver jag.
Breed them and pick the best and biggest looking male from the fry.:cool-1:

:irked: Well they are both still alive!! but the female keeps trying to lock lips with the male who tries to get away but will retalliate if she keeps on.Thing is he keeps staying in her little area at one end of the tank.He has plenty of other space to get away if he wants.Sometimes they will both stay there peacefully but other times she has a go..how long shall I leave them together for do you think?.

heh jags are crazy little fighters, I have never had 2 in the same tank ever.. :/ I use to have 2 in a 4ft tank devided, they kept charging at the plexiglass and knocking it down, then would just get into all types of mess, Crazy fish, so I sold 'em!
