I recently added a few clay pots to my 180. I noticed the Jag took to one and hung out there and became territorial. I looked this evening and saw a bunch of eggs. The other cichlids are 2 jack dempsey and 1 newly added oscar. The eggs are a yellowish color from what I can see. Any chance the jag and JD cross bred? Is that common, or not a chance? Or did the jag just lay eggs for the sake of laying eggs?
Thanks!

My female jag recently produced fry with a male texas cichlid...they spawned through an egg crate divider....keep watch you might have something....

Awesome.

Your Jag and (one of your) JD can breed, yes. Perfectly possible and can produce viable fry.

Thanks.

I will try and upload some pics. They won't last very long, tank is pretty stocked. If they do hatch I will put them in a 10gal for the time being. I have a 125 gal setup that is currently empty.
Inhabitants are: (I know most would say it is too crowded/too small)
1) 18" florida gar (owned for the last 15 yrs)
1) 16" clown knife
2) 5" Orino Pbass
1) 6" Oscar
2) 7-9" JD
1) 7" Jag

Filtration is (2) FX5, Eshopps 300 wd sump. Temp is kept at 81.

Be nice to see what the fry grow into though if they hatch successfully.
