So I just bought my first ever managuense cichlid!!! im pretty sure its a male because it was much larger than the most of the brood. also his markings are starting to look like jag. Hes only 2.5 inches long. Sry no pic, hopefuly later (all he does is hides in his cave). He lives with a 4 inch oscar (a big baby), and soem dither rainbows.. the tank they live in now is only 65 gallons.

I know they cant live happily in here forever so im starting to set money aside for a new tank. my original plan was to buy a 125 for two oscars. I just got rid of one of the oscars and so i picked up the jag. how many gallons should i shoot for here? please be convservative as 225 gallon is too much for me. the general rule for a jag pair is 180 right?? so 180 should be ok for an oscar and a jag.

the oscar is a long finned variety so i imagine he wont grow grow the full 12 +

180 would be fine...a 125 might even be OK.

a 150 is the same dimension as a 125, just a bit taller. A 125 should be OK, but if you upgrade, go to a 180 as it is wider.

You could keep the Jag, oscar and maybe some other smaller cichlids if they turn out passive, also some catfish might work.

A 125 gallon tank will be ok. Jags are more territorial than aggressive. As long as they have space they normally don't go looking for spats. As long as the oscar doesnt try to bully the jag (which seems to set jags off) you should be fine.
