i have a new 4in jag that looks thin to me i have been trying to feed him pellets and what i'm noticing is he is chewing them up and just spitting them on the bottom of the tank.this is making a mess i have have to constantly clean the tank he has not ate in a few days so i know he is hungry and he goes for the pellets but seems to not be able to swallow them he is trying to chew them sometimes for 5mins but then always spitting the pieces out he does this with worms to.

maybe try to soak the pellets in a small cup of water?? That way he'll just eat them without having a hard thing to have to chew. Don't no about the worms.... Quit feeding those for a while?

it just looks like he can't swallow them he tries to but ends up spitting them out.he'll wait til they soak in the tank he spits them out about 8 times before even chewing on them then he chews on them for like 5mins then spits them back out.i know he's starving to eat but can't understand why he won't swallow them he looks thin to me

Welcome to Jag keeping. That's normal so you have to deal with it or not keep a Jag. They're just messy eaters....my Jag and Dovii do the same thing. The Dovii is extremely messy with Hikari Massivore pellets. He grinds them up in his throat and about half comes back out of his gills and mouth. Then the Clown loaches clean up the mess. :) They're a little less messy with Hikari Foodsticks.

so even if he's chewing the pellets up and spitting some out he is still getting the nutrition? or is this just waste your saying he will not swallow them like all other fish like my rd and oscar? he does this with all kinds of pellets and freeze dried shrimp to that's why i thought he was looking thin he has been making more mess than my oscar and it don't look like he's eating anything yet his belly is plump

right on. He's getting some but Jags are messy. Never owned an Oscar but I hear they're messy too. Good to have a clean up crew.

try flakes. My carpintis won't eat pellets but he does fine with flakes. He's just a bit too small to eat the pellets I've got.
