Jag+Arowana?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yep my Saratoga is two foot and I have a barely 4inch jag in there but tank is eight foot and I have lots of hidey holes for him

I agree. Unless the jag is more aggressive than average (and provided that the tank is large enough) they should do well together long term. Several years ago I kept a jag with a silver until the aro jumped. The aro went from 7" to 22" in the time that it took the jag to go from 4" to 8", so make sure you get a male jag. An adult aro can eat an adult female managuense imo.

No, it is not recommended to put arowna with SA/CA cichlids until the arowana is 11-12" long and it is at least twice the length of the cichlid.

I've done it with a silver and a jardini. I wouldn't recommend a CA community (even though I've done it) but I don't see any problems with a jag or a SA community for that matter. The biggest factor is size compatibility imo both of the fish and their tank.

It's a great combonation once the arowana is big enough.

Jags get some bad reps for being overly protective of their presumed space. However as SA/CA community exceptence goes I've found Jags to be more so than most. Heres my lil' 8" guy stuck in the middle of African Haps and a 20" Silver Arrowana, also a 20" Ornate Bichir, aggression from the Jag is very very minimal - the 12" Eyebitter and 6" Electic Blue Johannii are the absolute opposite tho - Go for it.
