i have a pair of jags around 5-6" or so their genital paulie or somethin somethin is pokin out like crazy

my questions are is their anyway to help them along like temp change/water change

at what stage or how many days untill i should collect the fry im almost 100% they will breed within the next couple of months

tia all advice is welcomed

I would bump up your temp to like 80-82 if it isnt already about that, and feed them like crazy alot of protein and when your female is really rounded then she'll probably lay eggs really soon.... Good luck

yeah the temps 82-80 the female does look like shes getting fatter and it seems shes trying to eat more so ill keep feeding and playing the waiting game

thanks for the reply

when i added a male jag into my tank with my female jag, i was hoping that they would eventually become a matted pair -- two days after introducing him they had already laid a whole batch of eggs - talk about love at first sight!

yeah i thought that would happen for me i had a male and i wasnt planing on seeing a same sized female, but i did, saw it at different lfs
im thinking that they were too immature they were only 4-5" now their a solid six inches and its about time

My second pair of jags was kind of an odd pair I guess the male was about 12 inches and the female was only 6inches (looked like he was robin the cradle)

LOL i tend to leave my fry with the parents until they reach .5-1'' but some people like to raise the fry. I am rather busy so i let the parents do what they were ment to do. But if you are careful then either way is fine.

IVE had three difrent breeding pairs of jags. Your gonna think im crazy but lower the temp to mid 70s like 74 to 76 thats what triggerd the eggs everytime for me along with a 40 percent watter change. But no your jags wernt twoimature atr there orginal purchase sizes.
my First batch came from a 3 inch male and a aprox 2 inch female jag!after they lay the eggs slowy bring the temp back up to low 80s. around the 36 hour mark the eggs will hatch.
if they turn white and by white i mean brand new tshirt white the eggs aint fertle. if the eggs styay or turn a baige color there fertle. two to three weeks latter they will be free swiming. by this time you gonna need to pick up a couple ac 500 spongews maybe cut them in half cut a slit in them and stick them over your intake tubes on the filters

good luck

well truth be told i was running the tank without heaters 2 weeks ago when they didnt seem like they were going to breed but last week i raised the temp to 80-82 degrees and the femal was acting completly different coming up to eat with the male instead of laying low on the bottom picking out what was sinking
so i dont know

and another question not about breeding when i got my male he only ate flakes, i think because he was too small for the pellets i was trying to give, so should i try to get them on some nice hiraki gold or stable pellets or do u think its ok just to keep feeding them pretty high end flakes
btw i do feed earth worms occasionally and i was thinking about trying to give them maybe catfish filets or shrimp any ideas i really want to fatten them up ecspecially the female

once again tia
