I was just at my lfs and they had a sign posted
breeding pair of jags $29.99. These guys are not
more than 3" total. Isnt that kind of small to start
breeding? Should I get them????

i've had 4" jags breed.. but $30 is really expensive. i can get a single jag around here for $5.. and theyre are relatively easy to sex

ask if they are a proven pair

At 3 inches my jag's looked identical. They didn't breed until my male was about 9 inches and the femal was about 6. And I got them at the same time and they were the same size when I got 'em. When they breed, they breed!!!! Be ready for having hundreds of fry @ once if you do get the fish.

First of all to your leucism question. It is true that pairing a Jag x Jag CAN produce Leucistics. And yes these prove to be fatal and die within a short time. But there will not only be Leucistic Carpets in the clutch, since breeding a Jag x Jag will only produce Jags, of course with the chance of Leucistic among some of them.

To get a male or a female? Well I think that is up to you. A male gets ready for breeding A LOT sooner than the female, already at the age of 19 months they can be ready to breed. And a male can also pair more than one female, increasing the chance of producing more Jaguars. Than if you just had a female Jag.
