So I did already post this in the cichlids section with not much help. I stuck a 2" jag in my comm tank turned out she was a female and my big male took a shine to her. The eggs are starting to twitch. I don't want the rest of the fish to eat them so i will be removing them
I have a spare 30g just need to get as heater for it. Should I leave the parents in the main or move them to the smaller tank with the fry. Also I have a really small internal filter wil this be ok with them. I've had fish breed before but never had them surrvive so would like to raise a few of these. Thanks for the help

30g isn't nearly enough room for a breeding pair of Jags, the male will more than likely kill the female in a tank that size. Leave them where they're at... And I dont believe a 2" Jag can lay eggs, you're either under estimating the size of it or some other fish laid the eggs. What size is your community tank they're currently in and what other fish are in there?

Ok maybe 3" in a big tank they always look small. Here's a pic. They have hatched I'm going to move the baby's into a seperate tank and leave the pair in there. How longn should I wait to move the baby's

Male will probably kill the female if you take all the fry away from them like that... I'd get a divider or just let them be

They have bred on a massive piece of wood so I can't do a divider unfortunatly. They seem to be doing well so far and there isn't that much aggression in the tank but they are not free swimming yet.

Since it's their first spawn, I'd leave them with the parents to give them some experience rearing a batch & so you get an idea of what kind of parents they may be. If they eat them, at least you'll know next time to remove some early if you just want some fry from your pair. Once paired up and the keeper maintains good water quality, There should be no reason for them not to lay again (in my experience, Jags breed readily).

Cheers guys right there All doing really well and as it's there first spawn I would really like some to grow on if I was to just net a few out would this cause mayhem in the tank ? Cheers
