Jag Cichlid confusion lol

Ok so I was lead to belive thies guys are MONSTERS. I dump some guppies in and he ignores them... The know knife is decreasing their population by the second but not the jag. He hasent eaten anything either. Im a little confused. This is his second day. hes allready dug himself a little hom behind a log, think he just needs to settle in a little more ?
 
Ya may need to settle and he may have never been offered live food and I would shy away from it as they can be hard to switch back to pellets if fed live too much.

My experiences with jags is they are relatively nasty when adults. I had one that was skittish until 13" then he came out of his shell. That being said it greatly depends on each individual fish, some can be nasty and others are little babies. Give him time and he may live up to the hype
 
He is about 9 inches Id say. I THINK its male. I LOVE him if hes aggressive or not haha. Was just wondering because everyone said that he will kill everything.

Jags are one of my favorite fish but I believe they are one of the most over-exaggerated fish when it comes to aggression. I know they're all different but I've dealt with quite a few and killing everything is the last thing they do. They can stand up for themselves pretty well but they're not ruthless like a Dovii, Trimac or Buttikoferi. They are great fish though. Good luck with him/her!

This guy is pretty chilling. Chases the big tinfoil barbs around a bit but leaves my clown and my ID shark alone now. (beat up the id pretty badly first day inthe tank tho)
 
That's weird. When my old jag was
4 inches he managed to eat a 2 inch fish whole.

I have a female about 7", she is very territorial if anyone goes near her cave. She doesn't start fights though, she was with a 9" Midas and 6" red devil. Held her own but never instigates. When I got her I heard how crazy aggressive they were and she would kill everything, not even a little. Awesome fish though
