I'm wondering if these two fish are able to coexist? I currently have a BGK at around 6". He has two rock caves and a large piece of bog wood to hide in/under.

What say you?

I have raised several BGKs with Cichlids...

In my experience the BGK knife flips around and does his thing as if the Cichlids were just big guppies. The Knives did not show aggression nor fear to the Cichlids...

The only time I have ever had a BGK really acknowledge Cichlids is when the Cichlids had eggs... at which times I was astonished at how fast/tough the Black Ghost Knife was. I've watched a BGK fight both the male and female while still picking off free swimming fry... this was with a pair of Convicts and again with a young pair of Dempseys...

But... the question is will the Jag attack the BGK knife in an act of territorialism... or boredom... That would all depend on the personality of your Jag... Personally, I wouldn't risk it unless I knew I was working with a very mellow Jag…

Don't do it BGK will get owned by the Jag-heck my Clown Knife gets picked on by my cichlids in a 1032 gallon pond!

My BGK seems to be somewhat timid with my 10" Tiger Oscar. But I have yet to see the Tiger Oscar go after him, even when the BGK wags his tail in front of the Tiger Oscar, and sometimes poking him in the mouth with it.

I was hoping to get something that would be strong enough to withstand the aggression my Tiger Oscar shows towards other fish. He has killed an Albino Tiger Oscar, and a Jack Dempsey. I've heard a Jag is known for bullying Oscars, so it should be strong enough to withstand my Tiger Oscar, and give it back to him. My tiger Oscar even likes to ferociously attack my hand and the gravel vacuum when I am cleaning the tank. He's abnormally aggressive to me during cleaning, and with other fish. At feeding time he acts like a puppy dog and wags his tail fin and with happily eat out of my hand very gently.

Maybe he wont have a problem with bottom fish, since he seems to completely tolerate the BGK. What would you say about adding 2 or 3 Clown Loaches?

What's the size of the tank?

The tank is 125 gallons, 6' long.

Probably going to add a 3rd additional canister filter soon when a deal comes up online on the Fluval FX5.

One or two extra fish shouldn't be a problem at all.

my 3 inch ebjd just made quick work of my 6 inch bgk last week, they coexisted fine for two weeks but the temps were 100 degrees in my area last week and my tank stayed at 86 degrees for those few days, not sure if the temps had anything to do with it, they were housed in a 75 gal, i would think a jag would take it out fairly quick, some people seem to be able to mix bgk's with cichlids, some not, i guess it was a $20 expieriment for me.
