hey all after about 11 months of searching and waiting i finally found some jag cichlids at my LFS, as soon as i seen them i had to get 2 lol, there only about 2 - 3 1/2cms and so cute, untill i got them home and put them in the tank with 2 gold fish and about 20 small snakehead gudeons, ive had them for about 3 hours now and i got left in the tank, 2 half gudgeons and alot of corpses. all the fish at least doubled the size of my jags, im hoping i can expect this from them there whole lives, i need as much info as i can get, i dont trust the net thats y im asking the pros lol, so all info on these lil beasts is greatly appreciated, and some photos would be great to. cheers

Jags are territorial and very aggressive, need a minimum of at least 60 gallons to themselves IMO and what ever you read on the net (GOOGLE IT!)is most likely gonna be true about jags.
heres a pic of mine back then

What are snakehead gudgeons? I find it hard to believe that a 1/2"-1" Jag would kill fish over double their size. They're barely fry and just don't do that at that size. Not saying it didn't happen, just hard to believe. Got any pics of your new little guys?

Sounds like the snakehead gudgeons have been having a cannabalstic feast on each other, and could be coincidence,,
As to the size the original poster said 2.5 to 3.5 cm,,, i used to have a few 3cm jags that tried to swallow a malawi hybrid whole, and the hybrid was about 1.5 to 2cms....
What they are doing in with goldfish is another thing,,,maybe an on hand snack for when they are bigger lol

well sorry to say but they've been slaughtering the fish, and there gudgeons not snakeheads they dont eat each other man.... the gudgeons been in there for about 2 months and havent touched each other, the gold fish i got when i got the gudgeons in the tank labelled feeders i didnt notice at first they were for my RD but ended up in stayin in the quarentine tank and then when i got my jags i placed them in there so that they have something to play with and it worked so... $5 for 20 gudgeons man cant go wrong, the gold fish aare only about 5cms man there crappy looking brown ones so i wasent expecting anything like that. they didnt eat them at first they just beat them up then chewed up the corpses.. will place pictures when i get new recharge batteries for my camera shouldnt be too long..
MERRY XMAS ALL!!!!

Congrats, you just purchased one of the most aggressive Cichlids to come out of Central America. Full grown, Jaguars can be vicious and completely belligerent killing everything in your tank and their raw power only rivaled by cichlids such as the Dovii, Umbee and a few others.......

Jags are not as bad a Dovii, comes to aggression. I kept my 12" male Jag in 150 with red tiger, freddy, jacks, plecos, catfishes, midas, etc.. He somehow very mellow for a large male Jag. Had the set up for over 2 yrs now. Normally they are kept solo fish.
