My pair bred again in my 220 after being moved from a 55 they shared. I have lost all previous fry from this pair and would like to keep them this time but would like it if someone could better explain when exactly I should move them. They were visible at the 1st of this month and now are swimming freely around with their convict mom. She wont let the Jag father come close, or the little freddy that shares the tank with them. I saw some of them pecking around at particles of food in the water so I assume they are past that egg sac portion of their youth. I always, always screw this up or the fry mysteriously disappear the night before I make a move. I would really like to catch them before anything bad happens, but after the mother has them pretty much ready to be alone. I am thinking about putting the fry net that hangs on the inside of the edge of the tank and syphoning them into it. Then transferring them to my 55 across the basement. Any help would be appreciated, like I said i'm 0 for 5 so far and I am a bit nervous I'll screw this up too.

You can the fry to a separate grow out tank with a sponge filter. A 10 gallon would be sufficient. Feed fry finely crushed pellets 3 times a day and water changes every other day.

Awesome. Good to hear from you Azedenkae, your familiar with this dilemma. Hopefully this time I will be able to update on their progress. Thank you all, I will let you know how it goes when I do the shift.

Got it but it nothing went as planned. They were impossible to syphon from the 220 so I hand netted as many as I could and left the rest with the mother. I figure I can hedge my bets that way anyway. I removed the filter from their side of the divider as well. Im prettty sure it would have sucked them all up anyway. Thanks again, so far so good.

A flowerhorn I picked up for 3.99 in the convict tank at the pet store. Too sweet to pass up on. And possibly a red terror. I never see it because it's microscopic and hides all day. The flowerhorn is pretty tiny itself.
