Recently my pair of jags layed eggs again(5th time) it's been about a week and they are now free swimming. What's the next step, should I take them out right now, if so how. I Also need to do maintenance on the tank and don't know how to because of the fry. Killer is alpha male and mrs killer is his wife. They won't let me near the tank. He goes wild I'm talking splashing water at me, full force head butts to the glass stuff like that. I want them to survive and I have a 40 gallon set up, should I add half the water from the 125 to the 40g so they will acclimate very well? What do you usaully do when this happens ?

fill ur 40 with the same water out the tanks the fry are from.
then when you have syfen the babies into a bucket and simply por them into the other tanks. that what i have done with my fry and they are all growing up nice and fine. :D

It depends on a few things IMO. If yo have a large tank I would keep the fry in there with the parents and start feeding them Hikari first bites and crushed up flakes. It can be tricky getting the food in there with the parents. If they are in a smaller tank I would take the fry out and raise some to a few inches. I like the look of the fry with the parents plus it's less of a hassle.

I would put a blanket or something over the front of the tank so the male doesn't see you approaching and bash his brains out on the glass. Then, as stated above, syphon the fry into a bucket (good excuse for a water change) and transfer. Good luck!

Pics? ;)

Yes I will have pics, its 125g running couple Rhein
2236, several powerheads, and a marineland c something canister for chemical filtration. I have first bites as well.

The thing with the blanket is no problem, my dad loves killer because of his personality so he plays with hi
Evry night with the magnet glass scrub. I wad gone 3 months last April of 2010 and I got home killers eye got infected. I've tried all sorts of medication but nothing helps. His left eye is white and has been for almost a year. I felt very bad, but nothing I can do anymore. It was most likely from stress and old age, he is about 6 years old and 15 inches. Last year I found a female that was perfect for him so I introduced them and magic took place. Killer is family but my family ****s with him to much because they have never seen a fish react in such a way that it is amusing. I'm busy an it's hard for me to do maintenance and take care of them. I have not been able to raise a decent batch of fry because of stated reasons and I'm tired of it because I'd like to have his kids
Grow up incase he passes one day. I also have a marine tank recently I received a call saying all my fish are dead 300$ in the drain. So that means I have an extra tank. Marine is a needy girl and I don't need that so in gonna focus on my buddy killer. I'll post pics soon but first I need to maintain the tank so it's in order. Soon I wish to have a 300+gallon tank for a manguense tank. I'm talking atleast 15 of them in one tank after they grow out. But thanks guys
