Hi everyone, i have a bunch of jag fry that i am growing out which range in length from 1-1.5". I have them in a 20 gallon grow out tank with a few juvi cons that are about 2" or so. Anyways i was wondering if there is any food i can feed them to speed up growth or is it just the same list. I currently feed 2-3 times daily with either hikari tropical flakes, tetra cyclopeeze granules or peas. I have been trying to get them on good cichlid pellets but currently they are not quite big enough to handle them. Any help or experiences you have had are greatly appreciated, thank you. Btw i do 25% water changes once a week.

Power feeding will most likely do a lot more harm than good in the long run. Faster growth generally comes at the price of improper development.
Patiance is a vertue...Our syndonis P. babys seem to be taking forever to grow along with the 8 true GT's we're growing out for breeders. These things take time.

i would crush up some hikari cichlid gold and start putting brine shrimp, blood worm and other live/frozen foods.
if you can do it go in to your garden(or bait shop) and dig up some worms then chop them up and they'll love em

I use earthworms from the garden but around here its more of a seasonal food because the dirt is hard clay so in winter while the soil is always moist i am able to catch a lot of worms but right now the dirt is hard and dry so worms are currently unavailable. Thank you for the ideas i will try some crushed hikari gold. Wolf3101, i am not going to try growing them so quickly that they develop improperly, i just want some good growth rates. Btw they are 5 months old and are approximatly 1-1.5" long, is this a good rate of growth so far?

Tetra Cichlid Bites worked wonderfully for my baby jag when he was an inch. Also you might want to do daily water changes instead of once weekly. That's what I did. XP

I have FH x Cyano fry that are less than 2 months and are already at that size. They are starting to color up as well. It seems like yours are not growing very fast at all. But, I have no idea the growth rate for Jags. I feed mine 3 times a day high protein diets. Their food is also extremely varied, even feeding veggies and they have been kept with anacharis, which they picked at since they were a week or two old. I do water changes frequently and overfiltrate heavily.

crushed up hakari gold, bloodworms & raw prawn :headbang2
but now they are on only cichlid gold.

my Jags was hatched on the 6th-aprill-07 so are around 8months old, you say

I would say no as my 8month olds are 7inches, that goes for both males and females.
