Hey everyone, I've recently acquired a new young male jag, he's only about 6-7 inches and fairly placid. I was wondering at what age he should start showing his "true self"? Aka becoming more aggressive?
Cheers, Tom

He's by himself in a 120galWhat size tank is he in, and does he have tank mates. My little jag (sex unknown) is around 3" in a 75 and pesters the hell out of the 6" striped raph in the tank.
How long have you had him, mine was very reclusive for the first month or so. It may have been adding the striped raphael cat that got it to become more outgoing. Have you considered dithers? Honestly I believe most parachromis are very cautious by nature, but eventually get over it. I am just guessing based on experience with other fish, but I would expect to see a shift in personality at the 8 to 10 inch range. He's by himself in a 120gal
Ok cheers, yeah I'm think of adding some other fish maybe a cat or plecoHow long have you had him, mine was very reclusive for the first month or so. Ok thanks I'm not sure but I think he's about around 7 monthssize is not as important as age, at 8 months or so they will take to digging and trying to dominate what they can.
Ok I just measured him and he's about 7 inches and apparently almost 2 years old? I wasn't sure about this as I thought he'd be bigger at 2 years but correct me if I'm wrong (in case this helps he was in a tank with 2 massive pbass and a pair of larger Freddie's, which probably explain why he's so nervous and his fins are chewed up)it can start very early, depending on tankmates......with another Jag or several, they can be aggressive as early as 3-4". Ironically, my previous pair started to mellow out w/ age and stayed cool as long as the other fish didn't come too close to their nesting grounds.
