I was just recently given a 6" Jag, it seems to have no interest in any of the foods I have given it. I have had him for a little over a week and he waits until the floating foods sink then eats them off the bottom of the tank. The JD and Pike I had previously in the tank would hit the foods as soon as it touched the water. Only thing the Jag seems to eat right away is frozen beefheart. Any Suggestions?

Will try the hand feeding ....the only other fish in that tank right now is an ornate birchir and a pleco.

Sounds like your fish would prefer sinking food. Was it fed floating or sinking pellets at its previous home? I had to get sinking pellets to target feed one small fish once, eventually all the other fish became skittish about eating from the surface.
If you have a fish that just doesn't want to eat from the surface, that "hand feeding" technique likely won't work.

I've never seen a Parachromis turn down frozen bloodworms or night crawlers.

I would not worry that he is getting the food off the bottom as long as he is eating.

The jag seems to be eating fine now, I guess it was just not used to the tank and didn't want to eat. Thanks everyone.
