Hi,

I have a two yr old 12" male jag who has stopped eating, It started about a month ago when i changed round the tank he began to fight with my Clarias and lost everytime, i removed the catfish and that day he ate. Now 2 weeks on he's still not eating and just sits in a big plant pot. There is a female synspillum, flagtail and clowns in the tank they are all healthy.
Ive tried feeding prawns, massivore, hikari pellets and mealworm which he loves. His colour is still good but im really worried about him, can anybody help??

He is probably just pissed off,he should calm down in awhile he wont starve hisself.

That is what i thought im just worried coz its been so long

I'm no help and am having the same problem as you. Sounds like you feed about the same stuff as I do. He use to be such a pig now he just looks and watches my Oscar eat all the food I put in.

Its annoying he used to be so greedy till the catfish kicked his ass!
My Jag terrorised my Oscar to death... so watch out!

my jag is doing the same lately. he killed a carpintis 2" bigger than him, and ever since hes hiding behind a log, and wont eat or anything. ive done water changes like normal and he still hides and wont eat. i dont know? all the other fish are just fine

Fish will go through periods of time where they will refuse food. Predatory fish like the large guapotes are especially prone to these hunger strikes. The best thing to do is to NOT feed them for a couple days, then try by dropping a single piece of food in to see if they are ready to eat. Continuing to add food that goes uneaten will foul your water. Having an aquarium with fish is arguably a matter of maintaining the bacteria rather than the fish.

I have also seen this before with Parachromus I've kept. My Motas would eat like cavones then stop for what seemed to be no reason at all. They eventually started eating again. Aquamojo's right one pellet to see if they're hungry in a few days. Some time you can get them eating again by bumping the temp up a couple of degrees.

I will try bumping the temp thanks, Ive tried not feeding but there r other hungry fish so that is not really an opstion, I only feed small amounts anyway. Thanks 4 the advice
