In about 4 months im getting either a 4x2x2 120 Gallon, or a 6x18x22 125 Gallon. It depends on the price as im still in school so can't afford a monster tank Haha.

At the moment ive got a male Gold Saum in a 75 Gallon thats 2"

In my 120-125 i need to move the Saum in there as im selling my 75.

My question is, can i keep a jag or Festae with my male Saum ? My LFS will only order them in a 3-4" and im guessing my Saum will be 6-7" by then. Will these fish be compatible ?

Thanks for any help!

125

I would go for a female festae over a jag or male festae. I would also go for a 125 for the extra length to limit aggression.

Be warned Saums can be slow growing so don't count on it being 6" in 4 months. From what I understand jags can grow pretty quickly, so it would likely outgrow the saum. Whereas festae are also slow growers so they would be a better combo IMO.

On a side note, it wouldn't surprise me if your Saum was female. The body and fin shape just doesn't sit right for male, IME.
The colours indicate male, but, you do get some good looking females...

I've got both a 4 ft 120 and a 5 foot 120 and the 5 footer works so much better for most fish. It even looks much larger. The only time the 4 footer would come in handy is if you wanted a tank with a big thing in the middle(like a reef) and lots of little fish. Anything over 10 inches just looks sad in a 4 ft tank imo
