Jag or not to Jag....that is the question....

Hey all

Got my new 125g delivered, Is this big enough to keep a jaguar in? Footprint is 5'x20"x2'. Ive always wante to keep a jaguar, but I would really like a bit of action in the tank, so i would only get one if I could keep some stuff in there with him/her......

comments from some of you old jag pro's would be appreciated!!!

your tank would be fine for any adult or even a breeding pair. i wouldn't advise tankmates if you go down the breeding pair road, or in many cases even a single male road aswell.

Do you think if I introduced him or her at a later stage with some tough fish, so he/she would be smaller for a long time it would work?

i guess if you had a male jag maybe a RD would be ok or some of the more aggressive cichlids..? what are you after? do you have some idea of what you want?

I really haven't had a problem with my jag, and have had them mixed with a pike cichlid, oscar, and even a large senegal, yet I haven't really seen much agression.
Also, as XR said, if you have a breeding pair your fish would be in trouble. If you dont end up with a killer downright nasty jag which can vary due to its sex as well, I think you should be fine if you mix them with something they can't eat, or something that can fend for itself (the bichir really can't, however I monitor it, and havent had to move it bc they havent even paid him the slightest attention)

I have had no problems with aggression from my jags, they are in a 150g with a FH,RD,Convicts and a Salvini so i would say you should be ok. Of course you may end up with a nutter because no two fish are the same when it comes to temper.

To Jag I say. How about an all female theme? A Jag, a Festae, a Carpintis and a Salvini. Round it out with 4-5 silver dollars...um and maybe a convict for good measure. That would be a cool tank.
