My 5in pair of Jags successfully spawned their first try! These two fish continue to amaze me with colors and capabilities. They just keep getting better, and when you think hey cant anymore they get even better. They look better every day, colors, patterns all of that. I was told they wouldn't successfully spawn until they tried it a few times, well they proved everyone wrong. The male is a complete stud, he has killed a red devil 2 inches bigger than him, he is already a glass banger, and is showing some swweeet coloration. The female is a fighter, she has survived jumping out of the tank and being out for an hour, she has fought of ick and is now healthy and beautiful. They are such a good pair, rarely fight, and always together. Now parenting, they are doing better than ever. I could use any advice I could get on how to help care for these fry. It is my first time breeding fish. Also if anyone has any name ideas, they would be greatly appreciated!!!! Im so happy!! :nilly::nilly::nilly::nilly::headbang2IMG_0675.JPGIMG_0672.JPGIMG_0679.JPGIMG_0680.JPGIMG_0682.JPGIMG_0683.JPGIMG_0863.JPGIMG_0873.JPGIMG_0872.JPGIMG_0871.JPGIMG_0868.JPGIMG_0867.JPGIMG_0866.JPGIMG_0865.JPGIMG_0864.JPGIMG_0902.JPGIMG_0894.JPGIMG_0901.JPGIMG_0897.JPGIMG_0895.JPGIMG_0907.JPGIMG_0906.JPGIMG_0908.JPG

very nice congrats bro

Congrats bro!
Caring for the fry is easy the parents do most of the work. After the fry start free swimming start feeding them I use "First Bites" or crushed flakes 3x a day. Then as they grow a little swich to small pellets. I use NLS .5mm and increase in size as needed.
Good luck

Thanks man! Yeah Ive been feeding crushed flakes for now.

Congratulations...the parents & fry look great!:)

My Jack Dempsey pair laid eggs on Monday, they hatched on Wednesday, and I now have a "quivering" mass of 2 day old fry.:)

I was wondering...how old are the fry in your tank in the last photos...where they are swimming freely?

Thanks

Quality pair you've got there congrats , I managed to find a 3/4" female yest had to get her ill have to grow her up for a while though before I try pairing her up with my 8" evil beast of a male , like yours he's killed stuff bigger than him , bangs tank , bites the lot , he killed the first female I put in with him overnite they were about size yours are now , so you've done well to get fry so soon like big dovii said above they will do most of the work crushed flake untill there bigger :D

Around 3 to 4 day after they hatched they began to swim freely.

Thanks! Have you tried a divider? or atleast have one ready? My male almost killed her at first too, so I put a divider up, after a week I took it down they were all over each other.
