About 3 days ago my jags hatched a small spawn of wigglers. The parents protected the spawn and all was well till this am. Male is defending nest alone chasing female away from fry not letting her near? Anyone else had this happen?

Sometimes cichlids do that. Better watch out because I've seen males kill female over fry.

This is very common cichlid behavior, and often results in the death of the female.
If you remove the female, leaving the male with the fry, there is a 50/50 chance he will lose interest in guarding the fry, and eat them.
If the scenario happens in my tanks, I prefer remove the male cichlid, because the female has more energy invested in keeping fry alive.
I then (guardedly) put the pair back together after the fry are gone, and, after a bit of recovery time for the female has gone by.

Put divider to separate them, if you want to keep fry then transfer fry to another tank and raise them there, your Jag pair will ready for another batch probably after 6 weeks.

If you think , the aggressive behavior of the male continues...then if you have a spare tank , move the male in it...and leave the female and fry together....but keep a look out for the behavior of the female too...

Later in the day they were back to normal then again this morning the aggression its like the male doesn't recognize the female in the morning strange but then who of us hasn't been in that position before come on guys...
