Ok everyone with Jag knowledge I want to know what you think this is a male or female Jag? I made it a poll question but I have never done one before so I may have not of done it right.

I am also strongly leaning towards this Jag being a female due to the lack of any spots/patterns on the lower jaw.

This is my confirmed Male Jag when he was 4 inches and a bit "washed out"

This is the same fish when he was about 6-7" and a bit more settled. Notice the "Jaguar"-pattern on the lower jaw.

Ok I am going to let the poll end. It looks like a strong vote for female. I have a little surprise for all of you. LOL Ive been keeping Jags for over 17 years and I had a darker male and a Very Golden Male when I was younger I kept them in seperate tanks or they would have killed each other. During that time I had one female that the darker of the two would breed with regularly.

Here is a picture of both parent's. This tank is supposed to be all female's. It shocked me as well I too thought this was a female until I seen this at 9pm last night.......

The lack of patterning to the lower gill plates spells female to me.

I thought the same as well. It's really kind of wierd. This is one of the offspring from Aqua Mojo's beautiful Jags.

hahah thanks Jonny. I am positive it is a Parachromis Loisellei. I have owned her for 2yrs now. She is the mother of the fry which was what confirmed that this is a Jag Male. She was doing all the parenting as a Female would and he was Protecting as a Male would so it was kind of wierd when I seen the eggs. I just figured they were confused and both laid eggs. But wow was I wrong. But thanks for the reply. Here are some of the other occupants in the 150g. I couldn't get picture's of the other three but there 1 Red Devil (The mother is in the pics below), my oldest cichlid Jack Dempsey the father of a Jack Dempsy x Partheraps Brodouri mix female which is also in this tank. Enjoy!

You will always have fish that exhibit both male and female traits, especially at smaller sizes. A prime example of why venting is the better way to sex.:)

ever thort about breeding a dovii with a neon tetra! cool"":)

^^^^^ Nah that would be outragoeus but if done I guess it would be cool. Unfourtinatly no more cross breeds for me only pure strains. I have already feed these wigglers to some of my other fry.

Very true I agree. Well at least I got a confirmed male that will hopefully look as good as his father. Can't wait to see what he will look like in a year.
