Ok I have only owned jags in a pair like I have today. I bought them at 2" each and luckily I ended up with a pair in my 125. I have never owned a Jag in a community tank etc. Now mine breed so they are crazy aggressive.... like even my hand is attacked during cleaning. They have no fear and do not back down. Although I have been told by some that if it is a lone fish like a single male in a tank with other types of cichlids then they are not that agressive at all. Is this true??? Like if I had a 265 gallon tank with a 14" male jag, could I have some mellow tank mates with him like a Oscar and a severum???? Or is this info I have way off and this guy will kill everything???

Instead of the gentle sev. or kind of passive oscar, i would try some jack dempsies, maybe even convicts, but go with something thats alest in the aggressive stage, also texas cichlids would be perfect.

A Jag even a single male can still do a lot of damage. It's a total crap shoot whether or not you can find compatible tankmates. With a 265 you have a good shot because there may be enough room for 1 or more tankmates could establish their own territory. Have lots of hiding places and break up the direct line of sight btw fish as much as possible.

I had a breeding pair of jags and a loner jag (3 in the tank) along with a redtail catfish and convicts.

they were agressive when other got into their territory.

now the female is gone (redtail catfish got her RIP - she never grew).

but in the tank now i have 2 male jags and a midas all around the same size. the midas is the boss of the tank, the 1 jag used to take that roll until the midas grew to the same size as the jags

im sort of disappointed because i was led to believe jags were more agressive but it definantly does not seem that way.

1 more thing: i tried 2 oscars with the 2 male jags and 1 female jag and they oscars got beat up badly so i moved them.
