All kidding aside, back to the original post. I stand by my opinion that for a life tank, even if it only tops out at 14"-15", a male Jag needs a minimum 6' x 18" footprint to be comfortable. It's a very standard tank size of 125g or 135g depending on height and you can get them cheap. If you haven't got the tank yet, do yourself and your Jag a favor and go for one that's a little bit bigger. If you have the tank already, just get a female, they get to be a pretty good size too and are just as predatory IME.

I don't see any problems with a male in a 5x2 really. I mean sure if the damn thing gets 15"+ then of course it's time to upgrade but I have only seen one Jag in my entire life break 18". The Manny was at my dog's veternarian in a huge *** tank. Never asked how many gallons but I would imagine 400+ gallons. Anyways I don't think you will have an issue.
For another topic yes salvini can get very very large. I believe Polomax has/had a 9" beast. I wanted to buy it from him because it was just that AWESOME. I don't believe the whole 16" two years thing because a Jag will take about 5 years to get that big and 7-9 to get any bigger. There has been great miracles though sooo it might be true.

Yes that is very understandable. I know that Sals usually get 5-6 inches and thats it. Though like that 8" convict that some one has on here there are great exceptions! I watched a video on Parachromis Dovii and I was watching how they hunted and their main prey was convict lol. I would like to see a Dovii try and eat an 8" Con lmao!

if u gonna put a fish in to small tanks,,they never grow there nature size...thats the only reason why u dont see so many big jags round there.
example,,ive got my jags in a 300 gallon,,, and just enough for them,,,they just layed eggs,,else i took the man out and put him in me hands,,,then u see how big it is

And a 100 gallon for a male jag might be barely adequate but the OP said a LIFE TANK to be COMFORTABLE in.
