I know the temperament of jags is going to be the big determining factor but I'm wondering how successful people have been keeping jags with a texas (rio grand perch)?

I have a 8-9 inch male jag in a 125 and in my 110 I have a 5 inch texas that is getting fiester by the day. Once the texas gets a little larger I'd like to pull him out and throw him in with the jag (with a divider handy). I'm looking for first hand experiance keeping the two of these guys - they're both fiesty so I'm thinking the texas would hold his own.. maybe... hopefully.....

AT those sizes i don't know if it would work. How's the Jag's temperment and is it alone at the moment?

I was hoping to get the Texas within an inch or so. Considering the speed at which he is growing - and the speed the jag isn't growing - I don't think it'll be very long. Right now the jag destroys any feeders put in the tank but I haven't had the chance to introduce any fish close to his size in the tank. I plan on pulling him out, throwing the texas in, re-orginizing the tank and then throwing the jag back in.

I keep a jag with a carpintis and a few other C/A's with no real aggression problems. As stated 100's of times before it just depends on the personality of the fish. Give it a shot but have a back up plan just in case.

it wont work, ur jag is too big now, should have introduced earlier, and since jaguar is more energetic, ur carpintis should be bigger or equal size. Also depends on jag's temperament. I know an old ladie keeping 2 one foot long jags, 2 red devils, 2 black flowerhorns, 1 green terror in a 46 bow front, very peaceful because she raised them since 1 inch.

I find that hard to believe in a tank that small-pics please?

That's not even close to being possible

+1

I had a jag and a texas together short term... they did not enjoy each others company. They were both roughly 6 inches and in a 125g. But I've seen plenty of people making stranger combos work out. I say give it a go.

I have 2 x Jags (2,5" and 1 ") , Texas (approx 3"), 3 Silver dollars , 2 plecos. My jag bit my Texas 2 days ago on teh side, and its now (inflamed) on the whole side, due to the Jag keeping up the attacks .

I dont think the Tex will make it :(

Moved house 2 weeks ago, and this might be due to the tank being moved?

P.S. 110G tank... Is it big enough, or should I rather keep the Jag alone?

It may be very hard to introduce the texas at this point. I have a carpintes that will not allow me to introduce new species of fish to my tank. Even typically more aggresive species but he is fine with severums that he was raised with. I know it is kind of the opposite situation you have but it can prove very difficult. You mat want to try a divder in your tank until the Texas gets use to its new surroundings. The Texas will also grow very fast and might catch up to the size of the Jag. The jag will reach a larger size eventually.
